A bit of a companion to the autumn version I did a short while ago.

The "Winter" is interesting artwork in traditional style. This decorative plot very laconical and colorful. Prettyquaint character. Picture can be used as a book illustration if bear in mind a compositional shortfails.
1 - Character is not interacted with onlooker. He is very strong shifted down and left. He just falled because his pikestaff, arms and tail formed a optical lines, getting out from the onlooker. Supporsing one of optical line going perpendicular or with other pith, (for example - a pikestaff) character can be interacted with onlooker.
2 - As always great texturing and clean linework. I wanna say only what character can be drawn with other paint. Other tint of a dark blue. I can be suggested blue-verdant tint. This colour scheme can be tear character away from the background and then light from the candie would be logical.

Trying something out results in garbage from time to time. :D That's just a part of the whole creative thing. ^^ And if you never risk anything, you rarely achieve something either.
And thank you!

Wow this is really lovely! In my opinion, even more lovely than the autumn piece. How is it that you got the snowflakes to be in there? ;u; Sorry if it's a silly question - I don't work with watercolors (they hate me).

I guess it shows a bit that I love working with blue: It was really relaxing and fun to splatter around on this one.

The snowflakes are simple. :D I used covering liquid to first paint a bunch of detailed snowflakes. After the first few bigger ones, I splattered a bit of the covering liquid on the drawing to make the pattern more random. This stuff prevents any paint from getting onto the paper and once the drawing is dry again, you simply rub it off and have a perfectly clean white area.

I tend to mostly use it when I want to be lazy and not paint around a part that should stay white.

Does that help? ^^

Haha, I guess we all have our own color that we tend to gravitate to! I have a hard time keeping orange off my characters.

And yes that information really helps! I used covering liquid once before but when I tried to remove it, it tore the surface of the paper ;o; Has that happened to you? Maybe the paper was crappy? Or the liquid was old? Or I didn't wait long enough?

Yes, this happened before, which was... frustrating. It can have multiple reasons. One of the major ones is that either the covering liquid or the surface it is on are not completely dry again. In both cases the paper will get slightly moist and tear very easily.

Another is a too clingy covering liquid and/or too rough paper.

If I'm using covering liquid, I normally apply it and then leave the drawing for the rest of the day. Just to be sure. After painting I will give it another drying day (again, not necessarily neede, but just to be sure) before I rub the covering stuff off.

Or I lose my patience (OFTEN) and try to see if I can rub it off already, which normally ends with small tears all over the drawing.

I'm impatient in this sector. :'D

So, by now I prefer to use it on smooth paper with lots of drying time. And I was told to generally use hot pressed paper and never to try it with cold pressed paper.

My favorite paper is normally that smooth bristol cardboard/paper stuff for technical drawings. The surface is perfect for markers and anything that needs a smooth surface, you can work with watercolours too and the covering liquid can be peeled off easily in the end. ^^

Wow this is so helpful thank you! I was probably way too impatient because I never wait for anything to dry D:

Same. I ruin about a third of my works that way. :'D Though it does help a great deal when you have something you're working on instead, like "just" taking small breaks from your big work to apply covering liquid or the first few layers of paint, before putting it back to dry.

<.< My problem is normally just that I want it to look right instantly, instead of working on the details. ^^'

Covering liquid. :) It is applied a bit like paint, but you can rub it off later on, so it's a good way to keep areas white. ^^
