always follow butterflies by drachenmagier always follow butterflies by drachenmagier
Not getting to draw for two weeks does not only seem to give me withdrawl-symptoms but also a massive level down WHEN I draw. O,o'' I need to draw more again.

Just toying around with vanishing point (not good), colors (better) and butterflies ( ).

Original for sale for CHF 120.-

Thank you! Sometimes a little break does wonders. :D When I drew this one I was in some kind of all-time-worst-artblock, so I thought a break and lots of gaming as replacement, might work. And it helped. ^^

Hello again drach,

I have spent so long searching for the perfect butterfly design for a tatoo, you win! I just can't believe it. It has the color gradients I want, the style it is wonderful! Can you scan this just the butterfly with clarity so I can take it to my tatoo artist. (this will be my first, my daughter got her first tatoo a few months ago, and I loved this artist, very savvy)
All I want is a very good copy of your original, this is the finest most realistic one I have ever seen! Your detail is exquisite. Please let me know if there is a way we can do this? I would even give you my email if you want to toss me a freebie, with of course your signature in the piece. Thanks for considering. BFP

I thought a while about it but while it is wonderful to hear that you want my drawing literally under your skin... I can't send you a bigger file of this peculiar butterfly. The drawing is personal. I won't mind if your tattoo artist takes the drawing and maybe changes it her/himself to be just what you wanted though. It would be nice of you not to copy it 1:1. :)

Hey drach,
I am more interested in the other piece we talked about, but the size - just card size it so small - so I am in same boat, trying to figure out how would it work, as I am buying a house, and want some very interesting art work therein.
That is too bad about the butterfly, I really like it actually, it is bigger than I thought, and the tattoo artist can make some changes for sure - it would even be smaller. What I liked most of all, was your attention to detail, that makes it so life-like, so I will honor your request, and thank you for allowing this as a template; it will be my first tattoo! And only tattoo.
On the outside of my right ankle.
Won't happen for a while yet, they are very expensive, and I am trying to take care of all the expenses of house purchase. INTENSE!

Thanks. ^^ I really don't mind it if your tattoo artist uses it as reference. Just would feel wrong to give a 1:1-ok. Especially on a tattoo which will be smaller than the original drawing you won't be able to use that many details: They would blurr with the years.

Wow, house and tattoo. O-o Talk about a lot of new things in your life!

never run after a butterfly, if they are near hold still, and relax your body then tune into how many beats you think their heart is beating, become the butterfly in your mind. It is a native american way to draw the wild to you. You must be very patient, and still and peaceful in mind. Just breathe, and ask for it to come near in your heart. :-)

It depends on what you want. Do you wish to be like the butterfly? Or do you prefer to see what it might show you? ;)

Actually sounds like EarthBound. No matter where I was or how many Psychic Points I had left, I would follow those Magic Butterflies, and I would catch them.

... Fanart urges... rising...

I don't know, I think you did a pretty good job here. As usual, your sense of light is fantastic, in both senses of the word

Of course I do! I'm a huge fanboy! It's my favorite RPG on the SNES - which is really saying something when you consider that it's, like, the system for RPGs - if not my favorite of all time!

Oh wait, do you know it as Mother 2?

Never played it myself. ^^ I had a Sega as kid and only recently aquired the SNES with a bunch of games I have to play. d:

I'm just surprised: Not many gamers tend to love old games today. ^^

Ah, well, now that you've got the opportunity, I'd recommend giving it a go. Might be a tad bit expensive but it's worth it.

And hey, it's their loss if they can't spare the time to enjoy the classics.

Of course it does XD in the Chamber of Secrets Hagrid told Ron and Harry to follow the spiders. But ron made a comment later on about how he disliked spiders "Follow the spider? I would much rather follow butterflies" Something along those lines.

For a first try, this is way better than what I managed.
With your drawing skills and placing of iD and the main butterfly it's easy to miss the few flaws there is. But from what I can see it almost looks like you started out trying to achieve a fisheye effect from the lower left corner while ending up with a more normal approach in the upper right.
In a three point perspective distance/legth/hight is always defined by straight lines while with a fisheye effect those lines are always curved. It might be something to keep in mind to keep the two from overlapping.

And just one little thing that came to mind concerning "always follow butterflies". Did you know that in South America there are some who consider the Blue Morphus as evil because they believe its beauty lures people into the woods, never to be seen again? ;)
