Pure Alabaster by drachenmagier Pure Alabaster by drachenmagier
Strongly inspired by the track "Pure Alabaster" from the OST of Infinite Undiscovery.

[link]

All traditional Media, watercolor, markers. No pencils this time, I was too lazy for those. :3
Sadly the glitter I used on the outer side of the tentacles is not visible on the scan. Q_q 's really sparkly here.

What can I say? I wanted to draw tentacles. XB

Critique as always highly appreciated but you really don't need to use the critique option to write it when you think something's wrong with the image. : D

Glitter? Hmm...that's too bad. I would like to see what kind of effect it would have on this picture.

Sadly, the scanner eats that up. TWT I could have added the effect with photoshop... but that would have looked cheap. TWT

Er...yeah, using Photoshop for that probably would have looked bad. I wonder why the scanner didn't get those?

This is beautiful. Really. I wish I could offer some intelligent praise, but I can't stop gaping. I love the detail and positioning of the wings, and the color scheme is very soft and pretty. X3

Tranquil and elegant. I love the detail on the tentacles, and how that dear little dragon is so delicately perched on them.

Well I must say its been a bit of a while but I think I'm begining to feel better and up to this ;)

I must say the design is quite nice. The neck goes a teeny bit slim at one point before becoming more thick again. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not (seeing I'm not the artist). The chest is fairly wide in comparison to the rest of the creature, though I think I've learned by now thats how you work it. The claw on the frontal right wing is smaller than the claw on the frontal left wing and it should be opposite of that because the left is further away. (The creatures left and right) The back or main wings (whichever term you prefer) do not match in design. As in the lower parts (the parts closer to the body) do not match, and neither do the upper parts of the wings (the parts further from the body). The tail as well, seems thicker, if not a tad flat looking, than the body itself. And by flat I mean like a beaver's tail. The look of the head and neck remind me that of a vine snake. The over all design is quite good.

The tentacles are of equal interest and though are obviously there, do not take away from the picture itself. I do wonder about the one in the front though. Is the front most and the one the drake is perched on the same as the (stripes?) say they are? because at first look one would say they are two different ones. Also if that is true, then why are non of the other tentacles splitting or split? I think perhaps a few less detailed tentacles could be placed in the back as your undefined swirled one to fill in a few gaps between more defined ones(i wish i had a pointer). I do like how the tentacles have a smoke-like quality to them.

I like how you didn't leave the rest as complete negative space but added in a sort of focal point that fits in with the curling tentacles and mimics as a sort of sun.

The colour scheme works well together. Keeping to your sort of title of alabaster, but making it visible. However I think its a bit questionable about you light focus because of the gleam underneath the tentacles. If you get what I mean. In addition there seems to be an almost faded quality to the piece, as if it was created a while ago and let sit for at least a century, lending an even more "fantastical" feel to it.

As always, sorry if im too critical, mispell anything, or mention anything intentional. Over all, its beautiful

Wow, you certainly took a closer look. Oo That's rare! Thank you for that! (I tend to get lazy with the details and the accuracy when I don't have people like you around who find everything. ;) ) Can't say much to what you pointed out: All true, I gues.

I thought that it might be sitting on the biggest tentacle around, so there might be more splitted ones but they need to have grown to a certain size for it first. At least, this was the thought behind it.

Thank you very much for the compliments and the very advanced critique. I love to read those, see different viewpoints and learn something about my own works. :D Thank you very much! And never appolegize for writing anything negative: When you see something in my works that strikes you negative it's best to tell me. How else would I be able to do it better next time? :D

Wonderful!

Beautiful colours, lovely balance with the lineart. The swirls on the tentacles are much better balanced when you have the swirls in the lineart.

And the dragon himself is such a great concept. So smooth and round but with a deadly edge.

Love it :)

Thank you very much. :D I don't think that dragon would be very deadly though. It's more like... a dreamer among dreamers for me. So, no worries there.
