Forest council by drachenmagier Forest council by drachenmagier
Drawn initially as a draft for a trade, then the dragon turned into a tree-dragon. A bit of a more epic version of the last tree dragon I drew, I think:

Cleaned up and colored while listening to the OST of Mushishi. [link] (a series I highly recomend watching, btw  ).

Mixed Media, some watercolor, markers, ink and acrylics on A4 Canson Paper.

As always: Critiques highly appreciated. :)

This beautiful piece of artwork reflects an aspect of fantasy and provides the viewer with a tremendous amount of fine detail.

When I look at this work, I can feel how vibrant and powerful the green tones are against the twisting body of the dragon. The greens are not flat and provide great patterns for the eyes to discover. The placement of organic shapes such as the spiraling leaves and towering branches help add depth and perspective through the entire piece. The combination of green and blue tones bring a calming mood to this scene.

One of the biggest impacts of this piece is how easily my eyes were fooled by the placement of foliage and branches. This compositional element kept drawing me back into the image to try and find more details. Because there is such strong juxtaposition between the dragon and the foliage, my eyes move throughout the piece in a never ending quest to discover it's true form, tree or creature?

Overall I am very impressed with the details and technique, and how being both subtle and pronounced, they create a wonderful atmosphere of harmony. Great Job!!!

Riiight, I completely forgot the made a second season! I really have to check that. But I'm horrible at watching anime alone: The moment I'm in front of a screen I want to draw. And drawing and reading subtitles just does not work well together.

But even in science, we have to rely on believe more than fact, to prove something. Quite often everything we know is only based on theories. Like, the colors of the stars? We don't know them, we have to guess the elements of the dustclouds to be able to recolor them.

And all it needs is one calculation that proves it wrong, no matter how many there are to prove it right. :D Our science is a very fragile though fascinating thing.

Dude, when you find or prove a dragons existence, please call me, or vice versa. i learned about that star color thing in grade school. pretty fascinating. that whole relying on belief thing is very true

I think it's really cool that you can come up with such things on the bus X) Whenever I try to draw on trains or busses, everything comes out shaky and rushed, because of how little time there is to finish it before the stop where I have to get off. It would save a lot of time to be able to draw drafts on public transport so you have all the time in the world to finish it at home!

It's normally shaky too, in my initial drafts. The trick is to know the busline by heart, so you scribble when it's shaky and you draw when the ride gets smoother. d:

That and public transport in Switzerland is really first class.

And thank you! :D

Der Drache ist so schön grün und verfließt richtig mit dem Wald. Bzw. verschwindet er direkt darin. Sieht toll aus, man muss wirklich genau hinsehen, um alles erkennen zu können! ;) Eine geniale Idee! ^^

Well now, that's one reason to be wary of trees. Beware, the trees bite? :XD:

So you finally got around to Mushishi, eh! That series simply can't be described by words. It had me on a writing spree for three months and has been one of my main sources of inspiration ever since.
I highly recommend reading the rest of the manga too as you'll find -among other stories- the continuation and the conclusion to episode 20.
And there is also another manga by the same author called "Waters" that I recommend just as much. :)

Nah, they don't bite, I'd say. It's hard to stay hidden when you bite random people. But never forget: Quite a few people go missing every year, not sure how many ended as food...?

I knew Mushishi from the day the first episode aired, actually. :D I just rarely talk about anime anymore. I will have to check Waters, though! I didn't know the mangaka wrote more!

Well, that's true. :XD:
Concerning missing people, I know. I've looked into that in relation to Revenant and I don't even need to exaggerate on how many people simply disappear every year. It's almost a wonder there is so little talk about it.

Well, concerning anime there isn't much to talk about lately. Psycho Pass is the first show in years I've actually been seriously exited to see every new episode of.
As for Waters, if you like Mushishi you're very likely to enjoy Waters. It has a slightly slow start though but it's essentially one large Mushishi story set in present day Japan. :)

And actually not that long here. I scribbled around on the draft for a while, whenever I had time, so a bit hard to say how long I worked on that... *scratches head* And then I worked three mornings on the colors. :3

I guess the scanner ate up some of the more pale colors, sadly. The elf had a very light green cloak, which got swallowed by the white in the scan. ^^
