Autumn Coat by drachenmagier Autumn Coat by drachenmagier
Started as a draft to keep me entertained while listening to a speaker. Then I kept adding paper and details at home. I'm quite happy with the final result: This leaf coat was fun to draw and paint.

Lots of New Age Music and HangHang drums while cleaning the draft and later coloring it.

Traditional Media on mixed media paper. Watercolor for the bg, markers and color pencils for the tree and figure. Any I guess heavily inspired by Mucha. I love Mucha.

I wouldn't go that far. XD I often struggle with drawings and have no idea what I would want to draw for days. XD But THAT'S why I love commissions: They give you the topic and most of the image already, so no real need to find all the ideas by yourself. ^^ (and thank you again for the compliments 8'3 ).

oh yeah! (sometimes the direction given can make that first step a bunch easier, totally agree!)

Though, that whole 'grass greener' thing too :S when there's stax of commission work, just wanna draw personal stuff, and when you have all the time in the world, it's be nice if customers would come along faster X'S

XD Right, that's a problem I know very well.
Best is to have at least some smallish commissions without deadline, so you can do something personal from time to time and work on the commissions after those breaks. :)

Same here. In different shades of black and dark gray, with that blueish shine of crow feathers would be more fitting for me though. :3

the only thing that caught my eyes is ... even though the light from the left white ball lumine (or lighten, sorry for my vocab.) his left hand, but it didn't affect his robe or his hair. I can only though that the other balls didn't emitting light as strong as the small ball at the left picture.

anyway, great design :) I especially liked the feel of the 'pouring' light :D

*nod* I initially planned to add more light from the glowing sphere on the creature itself and somehow forgot about it in the process. ^^' My bad, I will correct that later.

And thank you!

Love love love this! There's a feeling of mystique and wisdom in this character that's really alluring. The horns were done extremely well, by the way, I can only imagine how hard it was to try to align it correctly with perspective but it came out really convincing. The face of this character is just awesome... if he were in a movie (like Narnia) he would be my favorite character hands down xD. Sorry, really fangirling it out I know! But one last thing... composition is great, all the downward lines combined with the branches for contrast make this a really pleasing piece for the eye.

Those horns were one of the first things that was clear how it would look in the end. That, and a few of the vertical lines in the coat. I'm really proud of them.
Actually... if you want to create a character sheet it is hard to allign the horns. Here, in a drawing where everything could be possible and you will most likely never see the character from another viewpoint, it was not that much of a challenge. One shorter than the other because of the perspective and hoping no one would try to construct them with geometry was enough. d:

And thank you very much for all the compliments! Somehow this creature always makes me think of Pan from the Castlevania Game Lords of Shadows: (jump to 4.00 [link] )

Oh! I definitely see the resemblance. Exactly the kind of personality I imagined for him too. I definitely agree... I do a little 3D and it's a lot easier to draw horns in a composition than to do so in a character sheet :P Can't tell you how many times I've had to redraw just to make it work geometrically!

At least till Pan shows up in armor and beats you to death in the game. d: *grins*

But the initial version of him, the nice forest-god-like one, was always very inspirational for me. ^^

Guh, symethrical horns... x.x I just gotten a small commission where I had to draft a few ideas for such horns. One day I really need a tutorial how to construct such a body instead of drawing it freehand.

A construction is usually lined with a front view with a profile view, so for me things make a lot more sense that way. I usually just get some photos of the thing I'm making and choose climaxes to mark the height so I can reconstruct the profile view of it (e.g. for a character, top of the head, brow, bottom of the eyes, nose, center of the lips, chin). 3/4 views are much more difficult to construct orthographically, but in 3d modeling they are really just there for "an idea of what the end result should look like" as opposed to strict guidelines like the front/profile view act as. I may do it differently from others, but I just find there's too much room for error in a 3/4 construction on organic models >_>. That said, I stumbled across this to sate my curiosity... [link] Maybe that will help? (if youre a visual learner like me jump to figure 2)

I think I remember that. We had it at school, but used it to construct daily-life things like chairs and pencil sharpeners.
...
And I only remember half of it, not the actual 3D-construct-part. Darn, thank you brain. ^^'

The guide looks perfect, btw! Thanks for that link, saved it right away for later study!

Oh, I love him! He's a great character! You were able to convey a great deal of personality about him, and the coat is neat! I also like the contrast between the magic...orb thingies(?) and the background.
